Q: Birth control ? ?
I am getting married in March and was wondering how early I need to start on birth control and which is the most safest one out there ( I kinda used to be against birth control). We are planning on having kids in about 2-3 years. Thanks!!

A: You should start at least a week before you want to be protected by it.....and since you are supposed to start based off your period, would be best to start at least the month before. However there is no reason that you cant start now. First couple months can feel kinda off as you adjust to being on the pill, and if the first that you try doesnt work out well for you, then you have time two switch. Im on yaz and love it.....i have a good friend that was constanly nausious on it and lost a lot of weight in her 2 months on it before she switched. Would be better to deal with that now, then over your honeymoon and first couple months of being married. Plus if you are already on it,and know when in the pack to expect your period (everyone is a little different....should at some point durning the inert week that it starts, and going into the new pack) you probably can skip the inert week if it happens to end up that your peirod will fall around the time of your wedding and honeymoon and then you wont have to deal with that then. So pretty much, you dont have to until your last period thats more then a week before you want to be protected.....but the sooner, probably the better

Q: Birth-Control?
How do i tell my mom that i want to get birth-control? Im 15 and i realy need it for my periods!! They are always iregular like i will mark the day on the calender when im supposed to start and it always comes a week earlier our a week later! Im so tired of it. Plus im not planning on being sexualy active but if i did have sex i want to have protection. What do i tell her? I want to get the pills before school starts & i start highschool on the 27. any advice would be great thanks :) Oh i also have a couple questions- wich birth control pill would be best for me? Do i have to take it every day? What happens if i forget to take one?

A: Just tell her what you just put there. You want to have your periods regulated. Usually moms understand more so then dads. Trust me on that one. As for what type, its up to you and your doctor. It may take you trying different ones until you find the one that has the right hormone level that works for you.

Q: Birth Control?
I'm not planning on having sex, but i'd like to be on birth control to help reduce acne, be on my period less days, and not bloat...what are some could brands?

A: Yaz is a really good one and it deals with acne. But not all bcp's deal with acne as well. So you should check around or ask your gyn which pills also deal with it. I had to switch from Yaz though because I was on my period for 3 weeks. And as soon as I thought to stop I was fine. But yeh I heard Yaz is excellent for alot of people. But right now i'm on Tri-Legest which is generic for Estrostep. But I'm going to stop using it after this month. It's not good for your body. AT ALL!

Q: birth control?
im being put on birth control in a few days....my grandmother is taking me to the health department. im a virgin and im not planning on that changing any time very soon, but things happen... but anyways i wanted to know: what tests will they do? and will it hurt?? how long will it take? i just want to know what to expect.

A: With you being a virgin, they may or may not do a pap smear. When I was sixteen, I was put on BC for period regulation and did not have to have one, but it is up to the individual doctor. For the pap smear they insert a speculum into your vagina and take a swab of your cervical cells to check for cancer. This is generally the most uncomfortable part of any GYN visit. It can be a little painful, and you may feel a little cramping, but it really isn't that bad. Don't be afraid to ask the doctor to talk to you about what he/she is doing. Other than the pap, they will also palpate your abdomen to feel your ovaries and such. They will also do a urine test to make sure you aren't pregnant, as well as a breast exam to make sure you don't have any lumps or bumps. A doctor will then talk to you about your periods and such and try and determine the best method of birth control for you. The whole thing will probably take 30 min to and hour depending on how the clinic is run and how much discussion you need.

Q: BIRTH CONTROL........?
Do you think 13 almost 14 is to young for birth control. I dont want it for safe sex cuz I'm not planning on having sex, just for my period.. How would I talk to my mom, to not make it ackward

A: it's always akward to talk to my mom...i'm almost 15 and i'm too shy to ask her for tampons! it's really akward to talk to my mom about anything...i envy those girls who have a really close relationship with their mom and can talk to them about anything...if i were you i'd go to planned parenthood and get it behind her back....then if she ever finds them just be like "it's for my period mom, and you make it so akward to talk to you about these things so i went and got it myself..." i was planning to do that too...in fact i posted a question on here if you look at my questions and it says exactly what you said...i was too shy to ask her so i never did...props to you though if you do talk to her

Q: Birth CONTROL!!!!!!?
My mother and my dad's mother (so it's on both sides of my family) had breast cancer. My mom keeps telling me that birth control pills will increase my already higher-risk of developing cancer, since birth control pills mess with your hormones. Is it true? If I take birth control, will it increase my chances of getting cancer? Because my mom had a breast cancer that was hormone receptive.

A: i have done some research on this because i want to go on bc but all the females on my dads side had breast cancer. what i've found was that most people agree that it lowers your risk of cervical and/or uterine cancer but no one seems to agree on whether it increases the risk of breast cancer. some say yes, some say no. i would talk to your doctor or whomever is prescribing you the bc- maybe you can go on the shot or the patch, or only take the pill for a couple years. find out what's best for you specifically.

Q: BIRTH control?
I recently went to the doctore for my first pap. He asked if I've thought about birth control. I told him yes and he gave a sample and a prescribtion. My mother took the sample from me and said that I dont need it but she knows that i have had sexual intercourse in the past. I believe that she feels that she will be giving me permission to have sex by putting me on birth control but at the same time..I should be safe right? what should I do?

A: did you keep the prescription? because if you did, you could just get it filled. if you didn't, you could probably call the doctor and say you lost it, could he please write another one? that way your mom doesn't feel like she's giving you permission (even though you say she knows you're sexually active), but you get the protection that you need. it may seem sneaky, but if you're gonna be having sex, you need to make your sexual health a priority. which is why i also suggest investing in some condoms.

Q: BiRTH CONTROl ?????????

Q: birth Control?
Quick Question. I am taking the birth control in teh round pack and I was wondering. Is it 7 days or 2 weeks to wait before having unprotected sex? And also, after my next period(the month mark) is it safe anytime that next month....?

A: 2 weeks, but a month is better. 2 weeks allows your body to become fully accustomed to it, a month for significantly less risk as no egg was released at all.

Q: BIRTH CONTRoL???
my sister is taking birth control pills. What does that mean, Does that mean she had sex???

A: it could mean she has....or it could be for regulation of her period....whats her age? medical problems? think on these things....dont panic

Q: Birth-control?
How do I get my mom to get me on birth control? My mom and I are not open with each other about this kind of thing. And about a year ago when I was at the gyno, I was still a virgin so my dr. and I did not really discuss bc, but since then I have had sex, and want to be put on bc. But I don't know how to ask her. I am 17 years old. I know bc is not 100% effective, I just want to be more safe than just using condoms.

A: personally i would just sit her down and explain to her why you want to be put on bc. she may not like the idea at first but then she will probally be proud that you want to take the ignititive to make sure your safe when you are sexual active. My mom and I were like your mom and I and now she's happy i got on bc.

Q: BIRTH CONTRol?
me and my gf deicided we wanna get pregant she got off birth control yesterday. how long till the pill wears off

A: For me it took 2 weeks to get pregnant. Twice. Sometimes it can take up to a year for a woman's system to right itself, but be prepared, it could happen right away.

Q: BIrth control?
um....is birth control supossed to make ur jina smell funny?

A: It can. The Pill tends to reduce the good bacteria in your digestive system which can in turn lead to a development of thrush. If it's itchy, red and/or sore, go the doctor or it may get more severe.

Q: birth CONTROL !!!??
Yea hey i'm on the birth control patch and when i first got it i loved it cuz it made me lose like 2 or 3 punds but now my apeptiate got worse like I get hungry very fast and its a hard for me to control sometimes bcuz my hungry makes my stomach hurt how do make this go away or make it help lose wieght again lol

A: Lots of birth control will do this so it's best not to change, it's easier to start a work out routine or using fiber and protein type foods to keep the hunger down. Also I would suggest calling a dr for some advice. Good Luck!

Q: Is a condom and birth control used in conjunction very very reliable?
Also, I know that something called a "Diaphragm" used to be used as birth control, but it sounds really unreliable. Is that way more unreliable than a condom? How can anyone ever get accidentally pregnant if they use birth control and a condom? They can't can they? (Obviously, "pulling out" is the worst birth control method ever, and shouldn't even really be called a birth control method, but just plain dumb).. Just trying to understand how in this day and age anyone can ever get pregnant accidentally.

A: well.... nothing is 100% reliable. cause anything can happen. but at least you are being safe. so you are reducing your chances of pregnancy. BUT KEEP IN MIND IT COULD STILL HAPPEN.
