Q: Anyone get relief from allergy shots for cat allergies?
I'd had allergy shots back in the mid 80s and the shots eventually did help me to feel better and have less post nasal drips (though also didn't have a cat at that time). We just adopted a sweet and adorable tabby but both my mom and I are experiencing an allergic response including itchy eyes and nose. If the allergy shots helped, how long did it take? Thank you for any information!

A: there are other things you can do::: No more cats sleeping on the bed. Sorry, this is a small price to pay for allergy relief. If you get your symptoms under control by all means invite them back, but give yourself a break while you are trying to abate your symptoms. Keep them out of the bedroom altogether. Close the bedroom door to try and keep the cat allergen down in the bedroom. Your bedroom should be a sanctuary from allergens. So tempt your cats to sleep elsewhere during the day. Wash all bedding in 140-degree hot water at least twice monthly. This eliminates both dust mite and cat allergen (because we know some of you will still let them sneak up on the bed every now and then). Use HEPA air filters in rooms where your cats frequent. Since cat allergen is so difficult to remove, a good HEPA (high efficiency particulate air) air purifier is essential for cleaning the air in your home. HEPA air purifiers do require continued filter replacement, but when push comes to shove and you are in need of allergy relief, a good HEPA filter will do it for you. Vacuum up cat allergen with a high grade HEPA vacuum cleaner twice weekly. Vacuum walls, carpet, flooring, chairs, and furniture...everywhere. Use the hand tools on the vacuum. Cat allergen particles are very small and invasive so you really have to do a thorough job. Good hand tools on your vacuum cleaner are the answer here. Also, installing a central vacuum will help pick up the rest. Use a vapor steam cleaner to clean your home. In addition to vacuuming, vapor steam cleaners are now proven by research to be extremely helpful in killing off the cat proteins/dander, which are embedded in your carpets and upholstery. Steam cleaners provide a chemical-free way of cleaning and killing dust mites, bacteria, mold spores and cat allergen. Wash your hands immediately after petting your cat and do not rub your eyes. Rubbing your eyes can result in itchy eyes for hours. Use a strong anti-bacterial soap to avoid this problem. Clean your cat. Some people wash their cats to reduce the amount of cat allergen that is released from their cat into the air, but research seems to be conflicting about its effectiveness. Allerpet, a well-known brand of liquid that reduces cat allergen in the air, can be applied to your cats' coat and is available from your local veterinarian. Alternatively, you can get a micro fiber cloth and just damp rub down the cats' coats to rid it of visible dander. The majority of cats would prefer this to the highly dreaded bath. Confine your cats to one area of the house. I know this will be difficult for some people but this at least controls the cat allergens to a separate place where you can concentrate your air purifier and cleaning efforts. You DO NOT have to get rid of your CAT! If you do a good job with step numbers 1-9, your cat allergies should be significantly decreased. Keeping a cat when you have allergies takes a concerted effort, and is only for those who are nutty enough about their cats (like us), to go to all this trouble.

Q: Is there any kind of relief for cat allergies?

A: air purifiers that take out pet dander, fully vacuuming the place (even the furniture where the cat lays) every 2 days and a quick run over every day, if the cat likes your bed freshen the blankets in the dryer or place a sheet that can be changed daily on top of the bed to keep it covered. allergy pills for indoor allergies, and ask your bf to see his doctor for allergy shots. keep your cat brushed and your place clean

Q: Does local honey really provide relief from allergies?
There is a honey company about 150 miles away...or would it have to be closer. Also how much and how many times a day before I notice a difference?

A: Honey can be brought from a closer area than 150 miles, BUT MAY BE THE DRIVE COULD BE GOOD FOR YOU ALSO. Raw honey has also been effective for all allergies. Q: Any relief out there for eye allergies?
I've tried Walitin (Walgreens version of Claritin), allergy eye drops and rinsing my sinuses. My eyes are so sore and irritated I have to take Motrin for some relief.

A: I have found out that zyrtec or the generic form works good for me along with visine A.

Q: my bichon is scratching himself raw from allergies,is there anything that can bring fast relief?
our vet does not believe in steroid shots and he currently is on benadryl allergies for children that is only providing minimal relief. he wants to refer him to a vet 60 miles away that will do some allergy tests. he already is on a prescription diet. please help!! are there any home remedies or anything that will help him from scratching himself raw? he does not have fleas

A: there is a benadryl ointment cream for allergy itching, it works for my dogs. but honestly honey...get a SECOND opinion! what IF the steroids would help your dog? if it were your child wouldn't you question the doctor? i ALWAYS question a vet, when my pet has to continue suffering that way because of his "beliefs". if the steroids help, then you wont have to worry about the expense of a specialist..who will probably over charge you...then give you the steroids anyways.

Q: How can I get relief from this cold/ allergies?
My eyes are watering, my one eye I can hardly see out of. My throat is sore, I feel achey, and my nose is running. I took Claritin a few hours ago, but not relief. I just feel miserable and I have a house to clean and a baby to take care of :(

A: Dont know if it works, but saw it in a website (mentioned in the source.) use a tablespoonful of sugar and an onion. Cut the top of the onion where the roots are located. Peel off the onion completely. Cut off from the top, about one-third part of the onion. Fill the hollow portion with sugar, leave it for about 6-8 hours Take the syrup

hi my vet has suggested giving my dog benadryl to help her with her severe allergies-she itches constantly-the test to see what she is allergic to is very costly-but they have ruled out other issues, and know that it is allergies-i cant stand to see her miserable, and itchy all the time- any ideas of what else i can try to help her

A: My vet told me that benadryl rarely works on dogs' itchyness unless combined with a steroid. Please get something more effective from your vet for now. I would suggest experimenting with different foods to see if you can relieve her itching that way. There is a Yahoo! Groups list called Allerdog, they might be able to help you.

Q: What is the most effective pain relief for a bad sore throat caused by allergies?
I took Motrin and that didn't help my sore throat at all. I am certain it is allergies. What can I take/ do to feel better? I have taken my prescription allergy medicine today.

A: Gargle with salt water. Don't know why it works..but it does. It is also something you can do as needed. Nothing harmful about it. Just put some warm water in a glass and add about a half tsp. of salt, stir until dissolved. Then gargle.

Q: Ways to relief allergies?
I have allergies in the spring, and my eyes itch and irritate me so badly. I have taken Claratin but it doesn't work with me...I am thinking of taking Zyrtec, does it help? I do take eyedrops and that sometimes works (my doctor told me to take these eyedrops). Do you have any simple remedies that may help my allergies? Thanks!

A: Well, i have the same problem! it Bugs me SO much in school! and no, Zyrtec doesn't help. i take it EVERYDAY! and i think its making it worse! i know, im not much help. but, you could try, Aller-Tec, or Aller Clear, (Kirkland Brand)

A: Read these carefully : When mother Nature has provided us with such a simple and easy treatment to cure diseases and even to avoid them we all must follow the instructions given by her. Inspite of researches, this Allergy is not understood and so it is not cured. And as result, the patient has to suffer for entire life and be in a perpetual fear of catching Allergy any time. It is true that painful tests are taken to find out the cause which creates Allergy. Then Anti-allergic injections are prepared and given to the patients. Then Allergy seems to be cured for a short while, but apperars again and makes the life of the patient miserable. Although Allergy is not fatal, it is considered to be dreaded. The basic fact is that common cold is not understood and neither is Allergy. Most of the 'Common Cold' is due to excess heat in the body. Now when such common cold continues, the endocrine gland of Thyroid and Parathyroid is the first to be disturbed. As no treatment is taken to correct the function of this gland, it starts functioning less efficiently. This endocrine gland controls the digestion of calcium and so when this endocrine gland does not work efficiently slowly, but steadily a deficiency of calcium is created in the body. Disturbance in the Thyroid/Parathyroid gland leads to disturbance of Adrenal gland, which controls 'fire' element of the body, i.e. spleen, liver and gall bladder and it also controls proper oxygenation. Thus, less functioning of these vital endocrine glands reduces the of resistance power of the body. This vicious cycle continues. The drugs consumed to cure common cold only increase heat in the body which in turn damages the liver-the radiator of the body. Moreover, due to the continuation of cold for a period of two to three years, even the lungs lose their capacity to throw out toxins gathered from the blood. The net result is that the body develop Allergy for something. The over burdened nerves develop irritation against certain things like perfumes, pollen, dust, etc. And so when the patients come to contact with that particular thing; the nerve get excited. The Allergy point (Acupressure) No.21 on the front and back of the right hand palm sends signals, one to the liver to slow down its functioning so the excess heat can be produced and the other an SOS to the brain to defend against this enemy. Yhe body knows only one language of defence-it creates Heat. The Brain produces more H+ i.e. Histami. After a while, the brain comes to know that Allergy point had sent a wrong signal and realises that nothing has gone into the system of the body. And so, in order to remove the excess heat from the body it creates cold by taking one atom of oxygen from the air we breathe and mixes it with two atoms of Hydrogen, i.e. H2O= water. These results in sneezing, watering of the nose and eyes, coughing, vomiting, etc. This fight in the body between the excess heat and cold results in brathlessness, depression, etc. This is not understood and so instead of helping to remove the excess heat and increasing the power of resistance of the body by reducing the deficiency of calcium , drugs like anti-histamin are given to curb the Allergy. For the time being, this process of removing the excess heat from the body is arrested. But very soon, the body starts this process of throwing out the excess heat-which is considered to be another attack of Allergy. The vicious cycle continues. And so, even Adrenal gland is more damaged-which damages oxygenation in the body-creates more breathlessness and creates more and more weakness in the body-leading to more depression and the power of resistance of the body becomes so low that the patient develops Allergy even against microscopic dust. Now, once we have understood about Allergy, 'cure' is very easy. For immediate cure; take treatment on point No. 21 on the front and back of palm on the right hand. 2. Start taking Cal. phos 6 or 12 i.e. 3 pills in the morning and 3 pills in the evening-This will reduce the deficiency of calcium. 3. Take Kali Phos 200-8 pills on the first day and then once a week. Then take Kali Phos 12-3 pills in the morning and 3 pills in the evening. This Biochemic medicine will soothe the excited nerves, and the Allergy will under control. During this treatment, drinking gold/silver/copper charged water of 2 glasses reduced from 4 glasses is also advisable. TO REMOVE ALLERGY PERMANENTLY THE PATIENT MUST DO THE FOLLOWING : (a) Treatment of excess heat from the body do this : (i) Take as first thing in the morning 1 teaspoonful of haritki churna (harde powder-powder of terminalia chebula retz)+1/2 teaspoon of sugar for 8 to 10 days continuously, then twice a week. This will also keep the bowels clean. (ii) Take an equal quantity of cumin seed powder(Jeera), black pepper(Kali Mirch), saunf(Sauwp), amla powder,crystal sugar(Misri), and ginger powder(Saunth). Grind them into powder and keep it in a bottle. Take 1 teaspoonful of this powder with water in the morning and evening. (b) Drink 2 to 3 cups of green juice adding in it 1 teaspoon of Helath Drink + 1 tablespoonful of honey. This will supplement Vitamin "C" and digestive power and increase the power of resistance of the body. (c) Drink 2 glasses of charged water reduced from 4 glasse. This will empower the brain and the resistance power. (d) and also take the following Bio-chemic salts : Cal. Phos 6 or 12 -3 pills in the morning & evening for 45 days. Kali Phos 200 -8 pills once a week. Kali Phos 12 or 30 -3 pills in the morning & evening. (e) Treatment of Acupressure is a MUST. (f) And take Blue Light on the chest and back for 5 to 7 minutes twice a day. That will empoer the weakened lungs. Once you start feeling beeter finish the Pranaym with prolonged breath-alternatively from right and left nostril-repeat it at least 10/20 times. If possile also do Kapabhati and Bhastrika. (g) In case of breathlessness, do the following : Ask the patient to lie down on the back between 11 A.M. to 4 P.M. and open his/her mouth wide open. And pour 1 tablespoonful of honey directly into the throat in such a way that honey does not touch the tongue. And thus, just in 45 days , the body would have built up enough resistance power-removed the deficiency of calcium and also empowered all the endocrnie glands. So the patient will become free from Allergy and its fear.

Q: If I've taken Alavert 24 hours for allergies, but have no relief, can I take benedryl? Will they interact?
I took a 24 hour Alavert for allergies at 1:30pm and its already almost 7:00pm and I have no relief. Can I take Benedryl? Will they interact? I'm completely miserable.

A: I suggest calling the pharmacist at whatever drugstore you bought them at and asking him/her. I call them all the time with questions like this and they are very helpful and informative. It's their job to know this information.

Q: My allergies are driving me insane! Can someone tell me how to get some kind of relief?
I'm 4 months pregnant, and my nose is running like a waterfall, and every time it stops, I sneeze, and it starts all over again. I would like to scratch my eyes out with a rake, and at the same time that my nose is running like an open fire-hydrant, it's so stopped up that I can't breathe. Help! BTW, I've been instructed to take benadryl and claritin (not at the same time), and neither of them are doing ANYTHING. My eyes STILL itch, and my nose is STILL running. I've gone through a roll of toilet paper within the past hour!

A: Oh, gosh!! I understand. I'm pregnant as well and have the same thing. My doctor gave me Zyrtec and also some nasal spray. He said that I can take Benedryl(not with the Zyrtec but if the Zyrtec didn't work) An air purifier might work and trying to limit your exposure to allergens(pets, smoke, etc.) I would talk to your doctor before taking anything!! Q: any relief for post nasal drip from allergies for a 23 month old besides benadryl at night?
my daughter coughs during the day but it is alot worse at night she makes her self vomit she coughs so bad sometimes , we give her benadryl at night and that helps a little but what about during the day we tried childrens claritin and that didn't really work. when she does vomit it is usually flem she was coughing on.

A: Delsym is specifically to prevent/control a cough. My daughter (now five) used to cough like that at 23 months and the Delsym helped (it is OTC) we also always have a humidifier running in her room at night which helps a lot as well.

Q: How to treat allergies? I've never had them, but now my doc says I do. Tips for relief?

A: I got allergies for the first time this year also, it caused a lot of sinus pain. I tried alegra and it worked to me. A lot more people seem to be getting allergies lately. It took about 6 weeks for mine to go away - the alegra helped control the symptoms. Did you find out what you were allergic too? I think for me it was a spring time allergen, maybe pollen. If you are allergic to something specific, you can find that out. If it goes way in weeks, it's probably just a seasonal thing.

Q: how can I get relief from allergies other than medications?


A: it depends what ure allergic to..if ure allergic to dust, then take out the carpet in ure home/apartment..that helps..get this special pillowcase too..it isnt as soft, but it protects from dust....i had bad allergies b4 and i was on 7 medications at once, but i only had to do that for like 4 months..after that i never had any allergies EVER and i didnt have to continue with the medications so u may want to consider that!
