Learn About Treatment For Cold And Sinus.
Q: What causes my cold sinus'/allergies congestion to clear randomly?
I notice that whenever I have a sinus congestion whether it be from a cold or allergies. Sometimes it clears up randomly for like 10-60 mins then comes back later on.
Sometimes it clears up during the afternoon, after exercise, or standing up really fast.
What and why does this happen?
A: Environmental changes along with general changes happening in your body.
Q: I have to fly tomorrow and of course have a sinus infection/head cold. What can I do to minimize any problems?
The last time I flew with a head cold/sinus infection was horrible. My ears felt like they were going to explode and I was in pain for several days after the flight.
A: Get a good decongestant! I flew with a sinus infection and it was painful! I had so much swelling, I was afraid to fly back. I got cortisone tablets from a doctor so I could fly home.
If you have time, get it checked out - maybe at a walk-in clinic. Maybe you can get a cortisone shot before you leave, and tablets to keep the swelling down while you travel and come back.
Q: Which kind of cold/sinus medicine should I purchase?
I know that there are tons of different kinds of cold/sinus medicines out there and some of them are relatively similar. I want to find the best kind of medicine to treat the following symptoms: throat irritation, stuffy & runny nose, sinus drainage, and a cough. I'm not sure if there is one, single kind of medicine to treat all of these symptoms, but if anyone could please recommend any type of medicines that have worked for you in the past...I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks!
A: I take Excedrine Cold and Sinus and it works great. Also buy something with guafinesin (Mucinex or a store brand). It helps thin mucus and make coughing productive. Get lots of rest and don't underestimate a long steamy shower or bath.
Q: Can a cold/sinus infection hinder implantation?
I am TTC and just after ovulation I came down with a cold. It may be a sinus infection. Can this hinder conception or implantation?
A: I suppose it could because the woman's immune system play's a role in sustaining an implantation and pregnancy.
Q: I have a sore throat, and cough with colored mucus, is this a sign of a cold, sinus, or what?
My throat is thight. I experienced this shortly after getting a little dehydrated. Now I cough alot and sometimes there feels like something is in my throat. It is hard to sallow anything right now, especially liquids. Also my nose has been pluged and running. I didnt know if this was a cold, sinus, or what?
A: What you are experiencing is not a simple case of allergy. The presence of mucous signifies infection somewhere in your throat. It could also mean growth of polyps. This requires administration of antibiotics - but please consult your doctor first. It is more economical and the treatment more effective if you take the right medicine at the right time. Your doctor knows best.
Q: Can you take cold / sinus meds if you are pregnant?
My wife is pregnant and has a cold. She just got off a flight home from the East Coast and her ears are plugged. Can a pregnant woman take sinus medication?
A: Yes she can but only certain ones, she needs to call the doctor and see exactly which ones she can take so that it doesn't hurt the baby.
Q: Can being sick with a cold/sinus infection increase heart rate?
I was just wondering if being sick can cause an increase in heart rate? I have what seems like an upper resperitory cold or something and it seems as though my heart rate is higher than usual.
A: Hi, there. If you have a raging sinus infection, it can indeed raise your heart rate. A fever is often accompanied by a slightly higher pulse rate, too. Another possibility is that you are mildly dehydrated, which can definitely cause an elevated heart rate and cause you to feel horrible.
I agree with the previous answer, too. What are you taking for your upper-respiratory "thing"? If it's an OTC med, it might be a good idea to pop into Wal-Mart or somewhere else with a free blood pressure monitor and check your bp. You should also go see your doctor, if you haven't already.
I'm so sorry you're feeling crummy. I hope you find a remedy that works and that you feel better soon!!!
Q: Can a sinus infection or a cold make it harder to get an erection b4 sex?? can being nervous do that 2?
cuz i could have sex b4 but the last 2 times i tried were both really recent (within a week of each other) and i had the same bad cold/sinus infection, and needless to say, it didn't exactly work... however the one night we COULDNT have sex it got hard for a little bit.
usually it gets hard pretty easily wen were makin out and b4 sex
wats the deal?
A: I refer you to my previous answer on this subject.
You were probably tired due to your infection and probably nervous without knowing it.
Don't over think it or your problem will get worse. It was just once.
Q: how can i get rid of my terrible cold/sinus infection?
i have a bad cold and i have took sudifed, motrin, benidril, and motrin. any home-made remedies??
A: This works, I have had it work every time.
My husband uses this to keep from getting bronchitis when he gets a sinus infection, and I use it to cure sinus infections. THere are many kinds of bacteria that live in the sinuses, and this gets rid of all the bad ones!.This is the only thing that really helped me --- my Dr. told me about a sinus wash that will kill bacteria.
you need
distilled water
sea salt
liquid chlorophyll and colloidal silver from the health food store.
in a glass mix 1/4 cup water with a pinch of salt and heat to body temperature.
add 5 drops each silver and chlorophyll and mix.
using a large dropper (like one used for infant medication) drop 2 full droppersfull into one side of the nose while laying down.
Turn the head and let it drain out the other nostril. Be sure to have paper towels handy. or just use a neti pot, I like this better.
The silver kills the bacteria and there are several hundred kind that can live in the sinus cavities and anti biotics don't get rid of them all.
Do this twice a day for a week, mixing up the mixture fresh each time.
Then do it once a week for maintenance.
There is nothing in this that will hurt you, and it cured me.
I do not have to take claritin, or antibiotics anymore.
best wishes
Q: What are the best over the counter medicines for common cold/sinus infection/ flu?
I am not quite sure what I have. I have a low grade fever, fatigue, nasal congestion, burning sensation in nose, light yellow mucous, headache with lots of pressure (seems to worsen when I bend over), non productive cough, sore throat, sneezing and watery blood shot eyes. I am not sure what to try first. Please help I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
A: Vitamin D - at least 2000 units per day. Vitamin C - at least 1000 mgs per day. Drink lots of liquids. Take Nyquil as directed on the label.
Q: how to get rid of a cold/sinus infection?
So I developed a cold yesterday and has caused me to miss work and classes. I have a runny, stuffy nose, a bad headache (more on the right side) sore throat, and a bit of fatigue, no fever yet. my question is, what is the best way to fight off a cold? I have midterms next week and need to get prepared and be mentally focused on that. Any remedies on the best way to fight off a moderate cold? or possible minor sinus infection?
A: Here are some tips that help me when I'm fighting a cold, respiratory infection, or flu.....
COOK YOURSELF UP SOME HEALY SAUCE:
Boil some salty water in a pot on the stove. Turn off the burner. Blow your nose and cough out some phlegm. Make a steam hood by draping a small-to-medium-sized towel over your head and the pot. Breathe the salty steam in your nose, out your mouth several times. Breathe some in your mouth and out your nose a few times as well. Blow your nose whenever you need to. Keep this up until the steam is gone because the water has cooled. You can do this trick a few times throughout the day until you feel better. Salt is very healing.
OVER THE COUNTER MEDS TO TRY:
take a sinus decongestant containing Phenylephrine 5mg. you don't necessarily need all the extras it's often mixed with.
but if you want some extras, here you go: Guaifenisen (Mucinex is the brand name, but it's way cheaper at dollar stores. always read ingredients!!) liquefies your mucus so it's much easier to expel. But you have to drink TONS of water or it won't work, and you must be near a bathroom because it makes you pee a lot. (yet causes constipation... another reason to stay hydrated!)
Ibuprofen is an excellent anti-inflammatory, but it's strong, so alternate it with Acetaminophen as needed for pain, pressure, and headaches.
ESSENTIALS FOR IMMUNITY BOOSTS:
stay home. (even one day can make a difference to your immune system. plus, you'll keep your germs to yourself.)
sleep. (bolsters up your immune system)
drink plenty of water. (8 8oz servings a day=bare minimum!!) (pee out those germs and flush 'em away!!)
take vitamin C, zinc, and echinacea. (also strengthen the immune system)
eat too much garlic. (sorry, but it really is great for your health! and it will give you a good reason to stay home. :) )
wash hands well and often. use moisturizing lotion or hand sanitizer to keep from cracking your hands to bits.
avoid milk and chocolate. dairy foods will thicken your mucus and make your fight that much harder.
moderate exercise helps your immune system too!
the meds and garlic are harsh, so don't take them on an empty stomach. i hope you allow yourself some time to feel better soon! take care.
also i just learned a new tip from John Popper of Blues Traveler: very hot water, cayenne pepper, white vinegar, and honey. SOUNDS GROSS!!! he gargles it and spits up all kinds of nasty crap. might be worth a shot, but don't hurt your vocals! to be safe maybe just drink hot water with lemon and honey. that works too, and it's much more pleasant.
COUGHING FITS:
you will benefit most from the mucinex and water. (generic is fine... but don't take any DEXTROMETHORPHAN (cough suppressant) during the day. take it at night so you can stop coughing and get some rest. during the day, you need to drink a ton of water and break that crap up so it will leave you alone!
Q: can you feel fevorish if you just have a cold/sinus problems?
Im going on 8mths preggo. I felt like I was getting a cold, my throat was scratchy and I couldnt eat or drink much. I dont know if I was feeling hot because of my hormones, the cold or the office I work in.
A: I am 15 weeks pregnant and just got over a sinus/cold infection. It was horrible, but I also had a fever. I'd blame it on your sickness. I don't know what you're pregnancy has been like it know if it's hormone related. It sounds like you are over it, but you could talk to your doc if you are still concerned.
Q: What is the best remedy for a sinus cold?
I think I'm in the beginning stages of a sinus cold, I have a scratchy throat and my nose is constantly either stuffed up or runny. Also, my head has been hurting and feeling full of pressure. I've been washing my hands a LOT and I have only taken iBuprofen for the headaches. Any suggestions to ditch this before it gets worse?
A: Neti pot...if you can deal with the awkwardness it works wonders...I used one a few weeks ago and was shockingly surprised!!! Good Luck and hope you feel better.
Q: Natural remedy for cold, sinus congestion?
I have had a mild cold for 4 weeks now, does anyone have any tried and true natural remedies beyond chicken soup?
A: Have you tried cayenne pepper yet? As soon as I feel a sore throat or cold coming on, I start tanking up on cayenne. Well, not actually "tanking up" but I use it a lot. I also use it for relief of canker sores.
Another thing that is great for relieving the sinuses is garlic. You can buy it already chopped, or chop some yourself, and take a small amount of it on the end of a teaspoon - not too much at a time.
If you want more detail, e-mail me and I'll try to explain it better.
Q: How to get over a cold/sinus cold fast! my birthday party is this weekend and i dont want to be really sick!?
any honest answers would help no stupid rude answers please iam being serious please do the same.
A: I have the same problem! Get alot of rest and stay in bed. Drink many clear liquids, too. Try medicine, nip it in the butt. :P. Get some clean sheets/blankets, make your bed, shut off all your lights, and use a vaporizer. :) Hope this helps.
