Q: Healthy heart?
If my blood pressure is fine, does it mean my heart is healthy? What other tests can be done to determine if your heart is healthy? I am 28 and have heart problems in my family. Am I too young to go for a cholesterol test? Anything I can eat/drink to improve my heart function? I only exercise lightly due to fibromyalgia.

A: Since you are suffering from fibromyalgia, your light exercise is good, but you must walk too, to burn your fat. Have your EKG done on 6 monthly basis to stay in touch with any change taking place in your heart. Since it runs in your family do a Lipid Profile once a month. Take fat free diet and control your weight. In your age, you have better chance of survival, by avoiding all risk factors. Hope this will help you out.

Q: Healthy Heart?
i just found out my family history of heart problems is pretty serious and i have a horrible diet. does anyone know of any good diets for a healthy heart? im also pretty skinny so i dont wanna lose weight while doing this

A: In order to keep your LDL and your risk for heart disease low, you should start on the Heart Healthy Diet. The Heart Healthy Diet is an eating plan that can help keep your blood cholesterol low and decrease your chance of developing heart disease. Remember: the Heart Healthy Diet is fine for the whole family, including children from the age of 2-4 onward. Children under 2 years of age should not follow the Heart Healthy Diet - they need more fat to provide enough calories for growth and development. Heart Healthy Diet Guidelines -- you should eat: * 8-10% of the day's total calories from saturated fat. * 30 percent or less of the day’s total calories from fat. * Less than 300 milligrams of dietary cholesterol a day. * Limit sodium intake to 2400 milligrams a day. * Just enough calories to achieve or maintain a healthy weight and reduce your blood cholesterol level. you can visit this site for more Heart Healthy Diet http://heartscan.blogspot.com/

Q: What are some of your favorite heart healthy recipes?
A family member of mine is recovering from a heart attack. We want to keep as much flavor as we can, but make things as healthy as possible. I am a pretty good cook and am open to creative options. He is on a low sodium, low fat, low cholesterol diet.

A: Zucchini Bake. Sounds gross, tastes great. Yup, this will meet the criteria, because it serves six, and it is extra virgin olive oil the cholesterol is low per serve. The bacon only adds a tiny bit of yum to each piece but is not overwhelming in fat or cholesterol, the hint is to use quality ingredients. 3 x medium Zucchini (peeled then grated) 5 x eggs (lightly beaten ) 1 x large onion (finely chopped) 100g diced bacon (fat cut off) 1 cup lite cheese (grated) 1 cup self raising flour (sifted) 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil Salt + Pepper to taste (less salt more pepper for heart patients) ***Combine all ingredients after there respective grating, chopping, etc. season to taste with salt and pepper. (Dont use very much salt or you are defeating the purpose of the recipe :) ) ***Place in an 6" x 11" oven proof dish ***Bake in 180 degree celcius oven for 40mins or until golden brown. **Yum, Yum! Serve with salad. (no dressing!) PS I always think it tastes better the next day after its been refrigerated then reheated. I dont know why but it is more flavoursome. Sorry dont know pounds and Fahrenheit conversions, but should be easy to google. Good Luck!

Q: What are some heart healthy appetizers for Easter?
It has to be heart healthy, and of coure yummy!

A: Make a beautiful veggie platter with dip. Get four bell peppers, different colors. Fill each with: slice carrots in coins, use fresh snap peas in another, sliced celery, sliced cucumbers. Get a small bowl and make a dill dip. Put all four containers in a pretty lined basket. Scatter fresh cherry tomatoes to fill in the holes. Nothing like a nice looking veggie platter.

Q: What can you do to keep your heart healthy?
Besides excercise, what else can you do? What foods are best for keeping your heart healthy?

A: eat a healthy balanced diet with lots of fruits and vegetables. also, do a little cardio a few times a week but remember to rest some days. walk 2 miles every day, be happy, have good friends and family to support you, and reduce as much stress as possible from your life. i suggest to meditate or do yoga to reduce stress, its awsome. but remember that its okay to eat a hamburger every once in a while or to be lazy sometimes, just dont do it all the time! i hope that helps
