Q: Malaria treatment?
What's the best treatment for avoiding Malaria

A: Begin taking malaria pills about 2 weeks before you travel to ... wherever you're going that you might get malaria (usually you take one per week). I used Lariam, it worked great -- didn't get malaria and didn't have any bad side effects. But check with your doctor.

Q: What types of Malaria treatment?
I'm doing a report on malaria and need to know what types of treatments, medicines, and home remidies there are to get the virus out of your system. So if there are any people who would like to help Please do!

A: Malaria is the kind of disease where prevention is a much better option than the cure. For example, several different drugs are used a prophylactics - they are taken before there is any chance of being infected. They also prevent the disease developing, even if a person is infected by the disease. However, many strains of Plasmodium (the protozoan causing malaria) are now resistant to these drugs. But, Malarone is a new drug, to which resistance has not yet widely evolved. A person should see their GP before they go on a trip to country where Malaria is present, so that they can be prescribed these drugs. Also, in terms of prevention, people should keep their arms and legs covered at night when mosquitoes (natural vector transmitting malaria) are most likely to feed. Sleeping under a net impregnated with an insecticide is also a good idea. Hope I helped!

Q: Is Mefloquine a treatment for Malaria or a way of preventing it?
Does it act as a vaccine or to treat people with the disease? Thanks,

A: Both.

Q: How long does the treatment take to cure Malaria?
I'm in 7th grade writing a story about refugees, and malaria happens to be the disease a character has. I need to know this. Thank you. Thank you, Debonair. I searched and it says "Malaria can be cured if treated while in its early stages..." (http://www.hmc.psu.edu/healthinfo/m/malaria.htm) But yes, there isn't a vaccine yet.

A: Depends which species of the malarial parasite this character is infected with, and that will depend somewhat on from where exactly they are a refuge. Plasmodium vivax is the most common in Asia and the US, whereas P. falciparum is the most common in Africa. For P. vivax the treatment is for about 14 days but there is a problem of drug resistance and relapse with this beast; it can recur throughout life. However it is not usually life threatening. For P. falciparum the treatment is a bit easier and lasts about 3 days, the disease usually does not recur. However this form can be deadly if not treated quickly. Hope that helps.

Q: What was my malaria treatment?
When I was in Mombasa, Kenya I contracted malaria and my GP wants to know the name of the drugs which were prescribed. I was given long purple tablets which contained Quinine (I think) but I've forgotten what they were called. I looked everywhere on google but couldn't find it - I know I'll recognise the name as soon as I hear it. Does anyone have any suggestions to what it was?

A: Why don't you email or text the doctor in Mombasa who gave you the medicine?

Q: What was the treatment for malaria back in the 18th century?

A: RAW MILK was given to people for this and also foods that contain lots of quinine, such as grapefruit that contains the highest quantity of quinine. good luck

Q: An Indian scientist who discovered a treatment to malaria?

A: Sir Ronald Ross In 1892 he became interested in malaria and, having originally doubted the parasites' existence, became an enthusiastic convert to the belief that malaria parasites were in the blood stream when this was demonstrated to him by Patrick Manson during a period of home leave in 1894. (Sir Patrick Manson is considered by many to be the father of tropical medicine. He was the first person to demonstrate, in 1878, that a parasite that causes human disease could infect a mosquito—in this case, the filarial worm that causes elephantiasis. On 20 August 1897, in Secunderabad, Ross made his landmark discovery. While dissecting the stomach tissue of an anopheline mosquito fed four days previously on a malarious patient, he found the malaria parasite and went on to prove the role of Anopheles mosquitoes in the transmission of malaria parasites in humans. While Ross is remembered for his malaria work, this remarkable man was also a mathematician, epidemiologist, sanitarian, editor, novelist, dramatist, poet, amateur musician, composer, and artist. He died, after a long illness, at the Ross Institute on 16 September 1932.

Q: Year in Misiones, Argentina - Malaria treatment?
I'm spending a year in the Misiones province of Argentina. What is your view on Malaria medication? Is it worth the possible side effects that would occur over a year of medication, or take the risk of catching it? Also, do you think I should take the Rabies injections? Does anyone know how locals of Misiones protect themselves from these diseases? Thanks!

A: 1 YEAR??...You cannot make any treatment for 1 year. People that work in Malaria Areas are just carefull cause they cannot do any profilassi. You should die with a so long treatment. Anyway Misiones is not so dangerous for Malaria. Wash your hands, don't drink tap water...normal rules that you should follow in a lot of other countries. Enjoy Misiones
