Learn About Acid Reflux Symptoms And Treatments.
Q: acid reflux?
what are the symptoms of acid reflux? and if you have it, what can you do to stop it?
also is it genetic, and does drinking aclohol make it worse?
A: it can be genetic but i think in most cases it is due to the eating habits that are inherited. We tend to inherit diseases because we learn to eat from the same people who learned the same habits from people who also had those diseases. Anything that is not pure food; veggies and fruit and whole grains, can give you acid reflux. It is a hot burning feeling in your throat or can cause chest pains, heartburn, in your chest and an indigestion feeling in your solo plex. This tends to be strongest at night and is aggravated by water more than anything else. Propping yourself up at night can help or sleeping upright but if you have this it should be treated properly. If an over the counter reflux med doesnt work, get some zantac. You can't let this go untreated. You could burn a hole in you esophagus.
Q: Acid reflux?
What does acid reflux feel like? Give as many details as possible please.
A: I have acid reflux, it is not fun.
It starts as a burning feeling in the pit of your stomach, it increases and becomes and intense burning. It will then rise into your throat in waves. Sometimes it can get so painful that it feels like a heart attack. A doctor who treated me at the hospital (when I was first diagnosed) told me that sometimes they get in patients claiming heart attacks but it is really acid reflux.
You will also sometimes vomit when you are having an intense acid reflux attack, you vomit stomach acid, it burns your throat and mouth. I try to drink water really fast to ease the acid down back into my stomach, There is also a lot of burping, It is best to sit upright and not lie down when you are having and acid reflux attack.
Acid reflux sufferers benefit by raising the head of their beds up on bricks so the top of their body is elevated during sleep so that the acid has a harder time of crawling up the esophagus during sleep.
Q: Who else has suffered from acid reflux during pregnancy? How to prevent the pain?
Hi, im 33 weeks pregnant and constantly getting a burning sensation in my throat. I find the more water I drink the worse it gets. Although when I eat a banana or drink a glass of milk it helps decrease the pain. Some people say it's only because the baby is growing alot of hair, and that's why you get heart burn and the acid. Is that true?
What else prevents acid reflux or eases the pain?
A: i feel for you honey because mine is pretty bad most of the time to.i looked up some tips that have seemed to help me some when it's been really bad. 1st off the best thing i have found is when it hits to warm a glass of milk and put a tablespoon of honey in it.. it really did help some, then when i go to bed now, i elevate my head so that the acid can't rush up in to my throat, and then my doctor also told me to not eat anything for about an hour or 2 before i go to bed..and then of course i also have a huge bottle of tums that i keep by my bed that seem to help when it's not so bad.
Q: How can I get rid of acid reflux after the stomach flu?
I had the stomach flu (gastroenteritis) a week ago and now I have terrible acid reflux! I've never had it before and it won't go away. I'm taking antibiotics for something else right now and I'm not supposed to have antacid medicine. Any home remedies??
A: there are a lot of different home remedies out there for acid reflux. one that has worked well for me is taking a couple spoon fulls of apple cider vinegar. it tastes horrible but has worked.
everyone is different and there are a lot of different things that cause acid reflux so not every remedy will work for every person
Q: What to do if you experience acid reflux?
I woke up one day and my throat burned like crazy and i learned that it was acid reflux caused from eating too late and acid from your stomach seeping into your throat. I wanted to know what to do to help this because naturally ive just been drinking juice or water and eating lots of fruits to soothe it. Also, ive been experiencing a lot of coughing and wanted to know is this normal and what to do to prevent and help acid reflux.
A: 1. Fruits and juice will make it worse because they have acid in them.
2. To help acid reflux don't eat before bed and sleep with your head slightly propped.
3. Antacids should help, I find mylanta is very helpful.

Q: How can you tell the difference between GERD/acid reflux symptoms and a problem with the aorta?
I've had sharp, stabbing pains in the upper stomach area (and a multitude of other symptoms) for a few months now and they seem to be getting worse. How can I differentiate between GERD or acid reflux type symptoms, and something like aortic stenosis or an aortic dissection.
A: I'm not sure but if you find out let me know :) I have had a constant full feeling in my upper stomach over the last few days and its doing my head in. I haven't got much of an appetite but feel full, had a dodgy stomach a week ago. I went to my gp and he has given me some Merbentyl as he said it should settle things down and he thought it was just a bug that i have but i'm not convinced.
Q: How long should i take zantac for acid reflux?
I suffer from acid reflux and to treat it i take maximum strength zantac 150 mg. I want to know how long i should be taking zantac and if it will eventually cure me of my acid reflux? Also because of the acid reflux my voice sounds very muffled and it makes it hard for people to understand me when i speak will my voice ever go back to normal or is the damage from the acid already done? I have been suffering from acid reflux since i was 18 and now i'm 27.
A: Ryan:
I can't answer your question like a pro because I'm not a physician, but I do know that many reports say that that you shouldn't take acid reflux medication for longer than one or two months. But I had the same problem and took bottles and bottles of medication and although they helped some, I still had acid reflux at times. I'd be up at night trying to get relief. Right after a meal, I was suffering. I was miserable. Although this lasted for like 10 years, the last three was the worst and that's when I started prescription medications. Then I read about how most are only supposed to be prescribed for 2 weeks and thought, uh oh.
Because I hate taking medicine and because I thought the meds can't be that good for my system, plus, they barely helped, I started to look for a natural way to treat/cure my acid reflux. I tried one and it really worked. I haven't taken prescription meds for acid reflux in like 12 months! Plus, I only did the natural treatment for like 7 days and then as needed after that. In the last 8 months, I've used it maybe twice! It really worked for me. I'm 36 years old now. I know there are a lot of scammy stuff out there, but this one really and truly worked for me.
I don't know if your interested in approaching your acid reflux naturally, but if you are, I added a link to the website that tells about it. Plus, I added the link about zantac too.
Hope this helps and good luck man.

Q: What can you take for acid reflux during pregnancy?
I'm just over 25 weeks pregnant and started getting AWFUL acid reflux the other day. Is there anything I can take to alleviate this? Thanks for any tips.
A: I'm so sorry to hear you have such horrible acid reflux! Here's an article I found that may be able to help you prevent it in the future:

Q: How can I get rid of the burn in my throat after having acid reflux?
I take medicine for acid reflux, but still occasionally get it at night. After it happens, my throat and esophogus burn terribly for 1/2 hour or so, from the acid, I presume. Have tried chewing antacid tablets to try to neutralize what is left in my throat, as well as soda crackers, to no avail. I know this is gross, but also very painful. Any remedies for the after effects of acid reflux would be appreciated. Thank you.
A: I hate it when that happens. you could try pickles. the vinegar should help neutralize the acid
Q: What are the chances of throat cancer if one has acid reflux?
i've had acid reflux about half year ago, i just started having it out of nowhere. it's really annoying because your voice sometimes get lower in pitch and huskier because the acid "scotch" your voicebox. now im thinking it may cause cancer and i want to know more about it, thx.
A: Acids backing up into your esophagus has been proven to raise the risk of throat cancer because the constant irritation changes your cells. They even have a new procedure to zap the precancerous cells and lower that cancer risk.
Q: How effective is the use of apple cider vinegar in acid reflux?
I have a friend who has acid reflux and I am wondering about methods of helping her without rx drugs or zantac. How effective is apple cider vinegar in the treatment of acid relux and are there other things out there that would help? Thank you
A: Apparently the most common natural remedy. 2Tsp Apple Cider Vinegar in water 3 times a day.
See URL Link www.earthclinic.com/CURES/acid_reflus.html
6 small meals a day vs 3 large
Do not lie down with a full stomach
Prop at least 3 pillows in bed for your head, so acid, food does not reflux back up the esophagus
Stay away from greasy, fatty foods, citrus, caffeine...irritants
Q: Any safe home remedies for solution of acid reflux for a 2 week old baby ?
My 2 week old baby is suffering from silent acid reflux. He is not able to settle at night at all as he keeps getting up every 10 mins and choking. He also cries a lot due to trapped wind I think as he keeps bunching his legs into his tummy. Anyone with any home remedies which can help ? I have been told that gripe water cannot be given before 4 weeks and other remedies-infacol, colief, gaviscon etc have too many side effects.
A: Keeping them elevated for 20 mintues after they eat might help. Gripe water can be given, you could also try Mylicon. Though those two are really used to help with gas. Also if you are bottle feeding changing the bottles might help. Also when they sleep keep their head a bit eleveated we did this with a pillow under our sons matress.
My son also has Reflux. Nothing worked for him so they had to put him on Zantac twice a day and in between Mylanta to help with it.
Q: What are good foods for picky teens to eat with acid reflux?
I have acid reflux and I am a very pickey eatter and my mom doesnt know what to cook for me. I love milk products but they make me sick and I also LOVE spicy foods but they give me really bad stomaches and heartburn! Any suggestion?
A: I am also a teen with acid reflux and lactose intolerance so I feel for you. Here are some of my favorite foods that I eat a lot.
Pretzels (Favorite: Pretzel Goldfish)
Granola Bars (Quaker Chewy Bars)
Apples
Bananas
Peanut Butter
Almonds
Ice Pops / sorbet
Even if you haven't been diagnosed with lactose intolerance try taking a lactaid pill (no prescription required) right as you start to eat dairy, it might help. Also if you are going to treat yourself to spicy food the best medicine after the fact for bad heartburn, I have found is Zantac
