Q: Bedwetting?
Any remedies for a 12 yr old with a bedwetting problem?

A: My little sister wet the bed untill she was 13 years old. My parents did everything they ever heard of to do to help her, but nothing worked. She finally stoped, just like that, out of no where. She just had to grow out of it. I have a 6 years old son that still wets the bed. I'm afraid that he is doing the same thing she did. All I'm doing for him is giving him encouragement. Telling him he will stop when he is ready. There is nothing else for you to do. I know what you are going throught. Its very frustrating. Good luck.

Q: bedwetting?
i wet the bed and i dont want to tell anyone because im embarassed. but i need diapers or something for it. can overnight pads work for bedwetting b/c im too embarssed to tell!

A: I used to wet the bed all the time, but now its just about once a week. (im 17) When i wet the bed every night i wore good nights, but when i turned 13 i grew out of them and started wearing depends (the pull up ones). Don't use an overnight pad, they aren't made for bed wetting. I've tried them once and the pad didn't work, i still woke up in a puddle. if you buy anything, buy the depends (or good night)(which ever one fits you.) good luck. tip:if your good night or depend is loose there is a good chance that it might leak. So its better to but the ones that fit snug around you.

Q: How long do I have to be dry to know that my bedwetting is over?
I've been dry for a while but exactly how long do I have to be dry to know that my bedwetting is over???? And please no hurtful comments, because not only are you insulting me but thousands of other 13 year olds who still we the bed.

A: At least six months. With my daughter we kept on wearing underjams until she was dry every night for six months.

Q: What has everyone done for success with bedwetting?
I have 2 kids that wet the bed, I really hate washing everyday, I do not put them in pull ups because they are just too expensive. We are thinking about getting a bedwetting alarm for my son since he is older. I have tried no liquids after dinner, no caffiene after 2pm, waking them an hr after they go to bed and every couple hrs at night, nothing has worked. Any advice would be helpful.

A: if they can already go to the bathroom by themselves i suggest you do this: if they cant get out of the bed by themselves, make it so; also a child toilet in their room is helpful if the have bladder problems. On a second thought: if your not making them go to the bathroom when you wake them up or before they go to bed your just making the problem worse by making them move around more which stimulates the urinary system.

Q: What kind of doctor would I take my son to for treatment of bedwetting?
I plan to take my 7-year-old to a doctor at Children's Hospital for help with bedwetting. What kind of doctor should I take him to? There have been no psychological changes or trauma, but his dad was a bedwetter as a kid, too. I don't scold him or embarrass him about it - he wears pull-ups, and it's kind of a non-issue. But, the problem's not getting any better, and I'd like to get some professional help before it messes with his self-esteem.

A: well, would start with a pediatrician, and from there hopefully they can refer you to an incontinence specialist, or possibly an urologist if deemed necessary. good luck, my son has this same problem, and still waiting for a good fix!!

Q: What are some of the causes of bedwetting besides hereditary?
I started bedwetting about a week ago and my parents said that they never had it, so does anyone have any idea what might cause bedwetting in a 13 year old?

A: Yes. Here are two sites that talk about the medical aspects of wetting the bed. I know that stress can be a big cause. People at thirteen to sixteen are dealing with a lot of changes and that can sometimes cause a lot of regressing. If you don't know this already, the only time you change soo rapidly other than infancy is when you become a teenager. It could simply be your body getting used to all the changes. I know I used to suck my thumb when I was fourteen because I was soo stressed and anxious when I was awake. You're situation might be similar or might be another reason. Check the sites out. Good luck if you want to talk to me feel free to YIM me. Bye.

Q: Is anyone using Pampers Cruisers size 7 for bedwetting children?
I am using Cruisers size 7 on my 2 older daughters, 10 and 7, for their nightly bedwetting. We have tried the goodnites and underjames but they were a pain, they always leaked. We have been using the Cruisers for a few years now. Has anyone else switched to the cruisers for bedwetting?

A: My cousin uses them for her 8 year old. The others were to expensive and they leaked so she swears by them. Go with whatever works. My sister wet the bed until she was 17. She is doing just fine now.

Q: Is it really possible to hide bedwetting at a sleepover?
My son is 9 has a genetic bedwetting issue. He wears pull-ups at night. He has been afraid of sleepovers in the past but now wants to go. Should I let him?

A: From my days as a counselor at a sleep away camp: Get him a sleeping bag to sleep in. Have him hide his pull-ups in the bottom of the sleeping bag, and before he falls asleep, he can slip his underwear off and pull-up on. In the morning, he can slip the pull-up off and put it into a small baggy. When he wraps up the sleeping bag, it will stay in there for you or him to get rid of later. When I was at camp, I had a few kids who wet at night. Their parents would give me the pull-ups and I would keep them hidden - so none of the kids had them in their bags or some place they could be found. Mostly, I would wait until they were all off brushing their teeth, and then slip the clean pull-up into their sleeping bags or under their blankets. They would get changed after lights out. In the morning, the opposite would occur, though I didn't enjoy having to go through sleeping bags looking for dirty diapers... The kids on the other hand were thrilled and had a good time at camp instead of having to worry about being mocked. Don't forget to tell the hosts' mom, she may also be able to give your son some "cover" to let him discretely manage. Cheers

Q: What are problems that could cause bedwetting after the age of 9?
im researching sleep and this bedwetting paragraph explains why people do it but says if you bedwet after the age of 9 you should see a specialist. why is that? what could this mean?

A: Psychological issues, just to name one. I would have to know more symptoms.

Q: How much longer do I have to be dry to know that my bedwetting is over?
How long do I have to not wet the bed to know that my bedwetting is over?

A: If the diaper is dry for at least a week straight or even better two weeks dry.

Q: Can a UTI or bladder infection cause bedwetting?
My girlfriend has been complaining of frequently having the urge to urinate but not passing much urine. She says she feels a little fatigued & lacks energy.Last night she urinated while she was sleeping. She is very embarrassed about it.Could she have a UTI/Bladder infection & could that have caused the bedwetting?

A: That sounds exactly like a UTI/bladder infection. I diagnose them by just such symptoms every day and I'm betting the accuracy is well over 90%. Send her in to her doc right away, before it progresses. They will test her and probably start her on and antibiotic like Cipro (which is what my wife just got done taking). If the symptoms perdist after the medicine run, report it back right away as these little buggers can hide in the bladder and keep coming back if the antibiotic wasn't strong enough or the right one. My mother had one that took 6 months and 4 different antibiotics to finally kill. As you might guess, there is sometimes as much art as science in figuring out what will work for each person and their particular bug. At this point, home remedies like drinking cranberry juice will NOT work. Have her make the appointment TODAY. Tell her: In the future, drink cran juice to help prevent more infections. Always pee completely out so urine doesn't sit in the bladder and let infections grow. Pee before and after sex. Same with washing. Take showers instead of baths as that lets gravity take bacteria down the drain. Baths let water into the vagina and urethra that can have bacteria in it. Once you have had one UTI/bladder infection, you will be more vulnerable to them compared to someone who has never had one. Most people who get one WILL get them again, so do all you can to minimize the risks... Best wishes, Ed, RN

Q: Where can I get a bedwetting alarm?
I've heard about bedwetting alarms but where do you get them? Do you have to get them from the doctor or can I buy one somewhere?

Q: Is bedwetting connected to emotions in young women ?
My 13 yr old neice has been bedwetting nightly since her arrival from vietnam 6 months ago. There is medically nothing wrong with her and she has tried alarms, drinking less before bed, nothing works. She's been quite emotional, often saying nothing, sits there and wets. What's the best solution to this ?

A: could definitely be connected to her emotions, think of how scared she is of being in a completely different situation/suroundings. Give her some time and make sure to comfort her and it should cease.

Q: Should we let our bedwetting daughter go off to University?
Our daughter will be graduating high school in May and has already been admitted to University, but she still wets her bed. Would it be better for her to postpone University and stay at home until she overcomes her bedwetting problem? Her admittance can be postponed; the school allows that.

A: have you taken her to the doctor ,she may have a problem. hopefully its not laziness

Q: Whats the average age to stop bedwetting?
My daughter just turned six and is going into the first grade. She often wets her bed. Last night she slept with me and by husband and in the morning we were all wet. She refuses to wear diapers and stuff because she said she can't sleep. What do you think is the average age to stop bedwetting? When did you stop?

A: Don't pay attention to a couple of these answers. The medical community considers wetting the bed to be a normal condition in children up to age 7 y/o. For the most part, doctors will not even begin to treat bed wetting until after 7. It is very common for kids to wet their bed into the teen years and a few, 2 to 3 % (like me) will never stop. That being said, girls generally do not wet their bed for as long as boys. So, wait it out, protect her bed and do not punish her for this. Also, I wouldn't let her sleep in your bed unless she wears a diaper.
