Q: How to deal with high blood pressure and high potassium?
My husband has just been diagnosed with high blood pressure and was put on a low sodium diet. Further blood tests show his potassium levels are too high, so he is to avoid high potassium foods. What I have found suggests avoiding any salt substitutes or lite salt products, avoid whole grain breads and cereals, milk, yogurt, etc. The "heart healthy" diet his doctor gave him suggests eating whole grains and using "lite" salt as well as low-fat dairy products. So how do you balance the two conflicting diets?
A: Unfortunately it is not uncommon to have conflicting information from health care professionals because of the complexity of treatments.
Many 'lite salt' products use a potassium salt instead of a sodium salt, and you are correct: your husband should not use these as his potassium levels could rise too high.
I believe Mrs Dash may be alright to use, but be certain to read the label of any product prior to use. Sometimes the ingredients are changed without notice.
Ask your physician for a dietician consult: they can help you develop a safe diet program for your husband
Q: How common is high blood pressure in pregnancy?
Just wondering, lately I've seen a lot of questions and answers where woman have had high blood pressure during their pregnancies. Thanks for the answers!
A: It is normal for blood pressure to increase during pregnancy, like 120-125 and 80-90. If your blood pressure goes 140-145/90 then it is considered elevated and will be monitored. If it goes 145 plus/95-100plus then it is considered high and you could be placed on medication, bed rest or if you are far enough along in your pregnancy, then you will be induced.
I have gestational hypertension and my blood pressure has gone from elevated to high back to elevated enough that I am on house rest, need to go for blood/urine work weekly and I see my doctor weekly as well.
It is not common, really only like 1-2/10 pregnant women deal with truly high blood pressure.
Q: What happens when you get high blood pressure during the end of your pregnancy?
Im 38 weeks and i had a doc visit today and my blood pressure was high and they double checked it to make sure. My doc has scheduled me an apt for tues just to get my blood pressure checked and she said that if it dosent go down well talk about it then. What usually happens? Im nervous to hear what she has to tell me so i want to be prepared what she will more than likely do and say.
A: When I got high blood pressure, the only way they could get it to go down was to induce me.

Don't drink, except for the occasional glass of wine
RELAX!!
Q: What's the best method to lower high blood pressure naturally ?
Aside from the obvious methods of eating right, exercises and lowering salt intake. Are there any natural herbs or remedies that can lower really high blood pressure quickly ? I'm talking really high as in 180 over 110.. Heart attack stroke kinda blood pressure. Thanks for your replies.. God bless you !
A: Fatty acids lower blood pressure better than anything I've ever seen or heard about.
Salmon oil capsules have the most amount of fatty acids per gram of all fish.{WARNING- Watch the amounts of total daily Vitamin A levels from all supplements and don't exceed 25,000 IUs per day. IUs are international units and is a measure of volume and Mgs are a measure of wight.} I would alternate with Flax Seed Oil,Evening Primrose Oil,Borage Oil and Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Garlic can lower pressure as well, but keep in mind it thins blood so don't take with blood thinners.
Q: How can you reduce high blood pressure without medication?
Already know about DASH (Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension) and the need to exercise regulaly. Seeking other ways of reducing high blood pressure without medication. Any success stories? and How long did it take?
A: Nope, I'm still trying to reduce it naturally and have been for over a year, I have lost 2 stone (am now 10 st at 5'7") I train every day (30 mins cross trainer, 20 mins rowing machine, swim 3 times a week) and still have hypertension. I don't use salt, oil, margerine, and I drink in moderation. I have been on 50 mg Losartan for the past year which keeps my bp somewhere between 135/70 - 140/90.
If you find anything else that does the trick let me know too?!
I am only 30!!!
Q: What is a good diet for high blood pressure?
My husband has always had high blood pressure but recently it has jumped even more. As he's only 22 and I'm not planning on losing him due to that anytime soon I have decided to change our eating habits. I'm trying to put new meal plans together and would love suggestions for breakfast, lunch, and dinner that would be blood pressure friendly.
A: Look in to the DASH diet. This is the only medically approved diet for high blood pressure.
Here is a link to the diet's official site, where you'll find information and recipes:
http://www.dashdiet.org/
Sodium is the main thing to look out for. Remember that packaged and processed foods/sauces etc. often have a high sodium content- always read the label.
Q: What can result from excercising with high blood pressure?
A year ago i was working out for 1 1/2 hours and running 3 miles a day at a maximum pace. I suffered a back injury, and havent worked out for about 10 months really. I gained about 30lbs, and my blood pressure has gone up a lot. I want to work out as hard as I can because I dont like easy workouts, but is it safe with high blood pressure? Can I hurt myself?
A: YES!!!!! You can cause a stroke or heart attack or annurisym if you are genetically prone to have one. Go to the Dr. 1st and get on a BP medication and as you work out check your BP frequently. It should lower just because you are working out again and then because you have lost weight and then you probably wont need the meds anymore. But be careful, if you exercise and drop your BP and dont check it you could pass out and doing this while your driving or whatever can be dangerous also. Rule of thumb is check your BP often and know what to do to raise your BP and to lower it quickly if you have to. There are many simple things you can do to lower your BP like bearing down (pushing like you have to go #2, but try not to hold your breath.)

Q: How do I lower my high blood pressure with breathing?
I've heard that breathing can be used to lower high blood pressure but I don't want to spend a lot of money on a gadget to try it. Does anyone know if you can learn it by yourself and how?
A: It's true that you don't need an expensive gadget for this. But it's more than just relaxing. You have to breathe in a special way. I've been doing it for a while and it really works. Here's a brief description:
1. Listen to soothing music. It relaxes you and also helps keep your breathing smooth.
2. Adjust your breathing so that exhaling takes twice as long as inhaling.
3. Slow your breathing as far as comfortable.
Practice this for 15 minutes a few times a week. Continue slowing your breathing over time. It's easy and I actually enjoy it.
I've lowered my blood pressure with this method and I feel more relaxed too.
This is only a brief outline. See the source below for complete instructions plus an online audio demo.
Q: How can my husband control high blood pressure without medication?
My husband has just been diagnosed with high blood pressure. The medication makes him sick and he would like to control it without medication anyway. Does anyone have any tips?
A: Three things can help reduce blood pressure.
1) being no more than your ideal weight
2) taking vigorous exercise regularly
3) lowering salt intake and perhaps using 'Lo-salt'.
Unfortunately even using all three will seldom normalise it, once the disease is established.
There are also dozens of different drug groups each containing many different individual drugs, now available to treat BP. No one is upset by all of them.
Q: How can I get off high blood pressure medicine safely?
I would like to get off my high blood pressure medicine safely. Please respond if you have been successful in such an endeavor with the details of how you did it.
A: Getting medicine in this way is not safe.
First of all get confirmed if you have b.P.
Secondly go to a Good General Physician or a Cardiologist for check up and take medicine as per his advise only. Do not take any medication on hearsay from anyone. It will kill you.
Thirdly, Reduce Salt (Sodium less) in your food. If you are above 35-40 reduce intake of Oil and fat.
Go for walking in the mornings at least for 30-45 minutes.
This will reduce your B.P. without medicine and make you healthy.
